The project’s reason for existing, intended outcomes, non-negotiable values, and strategic alignment. Every later decision must remain connected to this purpose.
Stakeholders & Shared Value
Will this decision strengthen the communities it is intended to serve?
Meaningful community benefit, stakeholder engagement, equity, workforce opportunity, shared ownership, and long-term social value.
History & Proven Knowledge
Have we sought sufficient knowledge before acting?
Historical context, lived experience, interdisciplinary expertise, research, engineering review, precedent, and proven knowledge. Thoughtful decisions take priority over unnecessary speed.
Feasibility & Risk
Have our assumptions been validated—and what must be removed before proceeding?
Technical claims, financial assumptions, market demand, site conditions, permitting, feedstock, operations, partnerships, and delivery risk. It also removes outdated assumptions, avoidable complexity, and barriers that cannot survive objective scrutiny.
Regenerative Design
Does this decision restore and improve rather than merely sustain?
Positive net impact across ecological, economic, and community systems. The design must restore capacity and create more enduring value than it consumes.
Science & Standards
Are we making this decision from transparent evidence, integrity, and truth?
Scientific rigor, credible data, applicable standards, measurable baselines, technical review, ethical conduct, honest reporting, and a defensible method for proving results.
Security & Adaptability
Will this decision remain strong under future uncertainty?
Adaptability to changing technologies, climate conditions, regulations, markets, security threats, disruptions, and evolving community needs.
Long-Term Impact
What will future generations inherit because of this decision?
Lifecycle value, intergenerational consequences, ownership continuity, infrastructure longevity, and the contribution that remains decades after project completion.
Governance & Accountability
Are authority, accountability, resources, and results being stewarded responsibly?
Decision rights, governance structure, transparent reporting, ethical guardrails, performance ownership, resource stewardship, conflicts of interest, and corrective action.
Final Inspection & Commitment
Has sufficient evidence been presented to authorize advancement?
All prior gate evidence, council recommendations, governance requirements, unresolved risks, commitments, and readiness. The formal decision is go, revise, hold, or stop.
Structured governance
DesignGates are governed through qualified review—not individual opinion. Councils examine evidence within defined areas of responsibility and submit recommendations to the Executive Authorization Committee.
The councils are functional review bodies. They remain distinct from RegenArete’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board, although selected directors or advisors may serve as sponsors or subject-matter members when appropriate.
